SoNoMas? No Mas...

So, I did the SoNoMas endurance 100km mountain bike race yesterday. But, neither I, or anyone else finished the second lap, for two reasons: First, someone sabotaged the course and removed a marker, which forced riders to backtrack and take the road over the last few miles (which was a slight time advantage to some, but didn't really change the distance). Second, the heat was pretty bad -- low 90's -- and the race organizer seemed worried about not having enough EMT's to deal with more than one or two riders collapsing. So, after the first 3.5 hour lap, a few of us started on the second, but were ordered back at the first aid station. I was feeling good after the first lap, and I think I would have made it on the second, although I would probably have collapsed from heat exhaustion across the line, so at some level I'm glad they cut the race short. It also started to feel too much like a pissing contest going past, or being passed by the other guys on the course -- didn't need to suffer for 7 hours in the heat for that, just measure everyone's dick, hand out trophies and go home.

I did a pretty good club ride today, too: pescadero and back the 84, averaged a little under 20, and in the heat, too. Getting ready for the Mt. Hamilton RR next saturday...
