Well, here it is: the first crash of the season. It was a wet course, and at the start of lap 8 of 12 I got a puncture on the finishing strait just before the first right-hand turn -- my front tire went flat and I became a passenger as I felt myself slide.
Injuries were minor -- road rash isn't usually bad on wet, low friction roads, although I did bruise the right side of my hip pretty heavily.
This was a frustrating turn of events, however, because I was in the lead ~5 man break with less than half the race to go, was clearly one of the strongest riders in that break, and even lead the race for half a lap, got a KOM on one, and had a very real chance of a win or top 3.
Anyways, the bike computer shows the insanity of the first 17 minutes before my crash. About 300 watts average, 5 minute power of 345, 23 mph average speed, and each climb was about 20-30 seconds of 550-600 watts with peaks over 1000 -- every lap! --. Really cool race, hope I get a chance to complete it at some point.
