Here's the race report copied from my AltoVelo posting. On the right is a photo of me coming around 2 riders, 100 feet from the finish. I got them both before the line.

Race: Wente Vineyards
Category: E4 Result: 16th of 110

This really wasn't the most interesting race I've done: short but hilly and windy, and it turned into a simple race of attrition, with no breakaways, serious attacks, etc. By the third lap the lead group had squeezed down to ~25 riders from a huge start field (110).

I rode an intellectual race, positioning myself at the front but out of the wind, using momentum to my advantage, and drifting back 5 or 10 places on the first steep section of the main climb.

I felt good at the end but didn't have the power to stay with the top ~10, although I did pick up a few places in the last couple hundred yards by pacing myself well. I was really hoping for a top 10 here, but I rode a perfect race so it feels pretty good, and the placing is what it is.

Oh, the power file says the 4 ascents of the main climb were about 4 minutes at ~375 watts. Sounds about right.
